I have very wide toes and while Vivobarefoot is my go-to barefoot brand, their only line that fits my foot shape is no longer in production so I’ve been exploring new brands. I’ve also been looking for a Chelsea boot for a while so I was excited to see these.
Once they actually shipped, delivery was quick (I’m based on the US East Coast). I was surprised to see they were delivered in a clear plastic bag holding just the shoe box, and inside was just a small piece of bubble wrap for protection—not even enough to wrap around the box. When I opened the box, I was struck by a strong toxic glue smell and had to let them air out for a few days before I even wanted to put them on. Not much leather smell that is typically very strong for genuine quality leather products. I could also see right away that the edges of the sole had leftover excess glue, which makes it look very sloppy.
Once I tried them on, the fit is generous in the toe box and it does have a zero drop sole. There’s some flexibility, but the sole is too thick in my opinion to be considered true barefoot because you can’t really feel any variation or texture of the surface you’re walking on.
I decided I wanted to return these, and realized the return window is extremely short at 14 days. The return policy says the return must be “initiated within 14 days of delivery.” I received the boots in March 10 EST, and emailed on March 24 EST. While I received a response within a couple hours from someone in Turkey, I was told it had been 15 days so my order was ineligible for a return; when I explained and shared a screenshot showing based on my time zone I reached out within 14 days, I received another response twisting the policy to say that it was still ineligible because I was supposed to have shipped it back within 14 days. I was offered a partial refund of 50% or 50% discount on a future purchase. I will not be making future purchases and now have to decide whether to take my losses or try to resell. Very disappointing and frustrating customer service.
